Glossary
- Collagen Fibre Structures
Collagen is the building block of connective tissue, veins, arteries, ligaments and tendons, and every tissue and organ – including skin, the body’s largest organ. - Active Ingredients
An active ingredient is what is considered to fulfil the intended activity of a product. It is the active ingredient in a product that does the "work", and in a cosmeceutical context it has the ability to improve the structure of the skin. Active ingredients in MACTIV products help to strengthen the collagen network and thicken the epidermis, which in turn have an age reversal effect. - Nanometric
A nanometre is one-billionth of a metre. - Squalane
Squalane is an oil which is naturally occurring in the body. Microscopic droplets of Squalane can function as a vehicle for other active ingredients. Lack of Squalane creates premature ageing such as dryness and loss of elasticity. - Collagen
The dermis, or inner layer of the skin, contains large amounts of collagen, whose fibres form a supporting mesh responsible for the skin's characteristics such as strength, texture and resilience. With the passage of time, collagen is subject to wear and tear and slowly breaks down over the years. The key to reducing or preventing ageing of the skin is to lessen the amount of collagen breakdown within the dermis layer of the skin and increase the supply of collagen. Stimulating cells to produce collagen can result in collagen being deposited in an orderly, structured manner.
